At YellowBarn's Young Artists Program in 2013, we young composers were teamed with peers from the organization Tuesday's Children. The organization is for those kids who lost parents in 9/11. We heard our peer's story, and thought up an artistic collaboration, the six of which we then tied together into a half-hour collaborative piece. I was paired with Juliette Scauso, whose father was one of the first firefighters to perish in the attacks. Her story was mostly about life after that day, since she was young at the time. I created a piece meant to evoke change, evolution, and renewal to go along with her photos of the surrounding areas (to the left). The recording above extends the first bar of my score as necessary as the set changed and the lights dimmed between segments of the piece.
